The numbers continue to rise: 7,093 new Corona infections were registered in Austria yesterday (as of 9:00 a.m. Thursday). This is above the average for the past seven days (4,639). The seven-day incidence was 361.7 cases per 100,000 population. Five deaths related to the disease officially occurred within 24 hours (seven-day average: 4.7 daily).
There were 500 people in the hospital on holiday, down by eleven from the number reported yesterday. Thirty-one people were cared for in intensive care units. This number dropped by three since yesterday and is down by eight patients in one week. In the past seven days, 33 deaths have been recorded. The Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 18,720 lives in Austria since the outbreak.
As of Thursday, there are 52,721 active cases in Austria, up by 3613 from the previous day. There have been 4,312,525 confirmed cases in Austria since the pandemic began. Since the outbreak of the epidemic, 4,241,084 people have recovered, and within the past 24 hours, 3,475 were considered recovered.
In the past 24 hours, 89,200 rapid PCR and antigen tests were reported. Of these, 72,398 were meaningful PCR tests, with a positive rate of 9.8 percent. This 24-hour figure is above last week’s average (an average of 5.5 percent of PCR tests positive).
Three thousand three hundred fifty-one vaccinations were administered on Wednesday (162 first-time, 294 second-time, and 2,895 third-time). According to the E-vaccine passport data, 6,830,332 people have already received at least one vaccination. Five million six hundred fifty-one thousand one hundred seventy-five people, or 62.9 percent of Austrians, have valid vaccination protection.
The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland with 70.3 percent. In Lower Austria, 66.2 percent of the population have valid vaccination protection, and in Styria, 64 percent. After Vienna (61.7), Tyrol (60.8), Carinthia (59.8), Vorarlberg (59.4), and Salzburg (58.8), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 58.2 percent.
The province with the highest seven-day incidence is Vienna with 583.1, followed by Vorarlberg, Lower Austria, and Salzburg (408.4, 399.2, and 345.1, respectively). Burgenland (316.8), Upper Austria (263.5), Tyrol (262.9), Styria (232.2), and Carinthia (180.3) follow.
